Has anyone seen the new People Magazine? I was putting it on the
shelves last night and noticed the cover story had to do with Mellissa
Gilbert's (Laura, Little House On the Prarie) Premie--born 12 wks too early
at 3 lbs. I was curious to see if the Mag would mention how this preemie
was fed.
Gilbert mentions pumping milk in her daily routine and also lists
the first time her son was fed BREASTMILK through a tube in his stomach.YEAH!
Unfortunately, the next milestones listed were his first bottle and
the first time he took a pacifier. It was never specifically mentioned, but
I get the feeling that The baby was fed EBM just until the point that the
doctors felt as if his system could tolerate formula :(.
I'm not sure wheather I should be elated at national coverage
surrounding a television star--or uneasy in that I came away feeling that
Breastmilk was a heroic effort for this special baby instead of the norm.
