Oh wise ones,
In the Feb. 5, 1996 issue of "Newsweek" George F.Will's feature "The Last
Word" entitled "An Epidemic's Evolution" quotes from Sherwin Nuland's book
"How We Die: Reflections on Life's Final Chapter" regarding AIDS
transmission. "AIDS is a disease of low contagion," writes Nuland. "HIV is
a very fragile virus - it is not easy to become infected with it." Then
Will adds "It has been transmitted only by blood, semen, vaginal fluid and
breast milk."
Is he right or worng? Where are the cases of transmission by breast milk?
Why does every other secretion have a proper name and then we have "vaginal
fluid", like I suppose we could call it "penil fluid", I'm sure!
Back on track, are there documented cases of HIV transmission via breast
milk and where are they? I'd like to say that George F. Will is wrong (call
me perverse) but I have to know the facts first. TIA
