Greetings Lactnetters! I`d like to introduce myself-my name is Lisa Logan
and I`ve been on the net for a few months. I am an RNC and I became a IBCLC
last year. I have worked in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for all
of my career (12+years). I think LACTNET is wonderful! I have learned soooo
much from all of you and am thrilled to be a part this.
I was wondering if anyone has general guidelines for feeding preemies and
other high-risk infants. This would include things like:
when do you initiate feeds at the breast?
do you utilize Kangaroo Care and let the baby be your guide?
regarding EBM, how do you label it and do 2 RN`s double check it
prior to giving?
Are feeds of EBM given via bolus or continuous gavage feeds? If
given continously how often do you change the tubing and what size and make
of tubing are you using?
Do you routinely have mom sleepover and exclusively breastfeed
prior to discharge?
What about follow-up? Do you have a warmline etc...
I know this was a hot topic (:0), do you do test weights while the
infant is hospitalized?

Any info received would be appreciated. BTW, I had heard several rumors
about Georgetown closing their milk bank and Lactation Center and then saw
it mentioned here...Is it true? Why? When? We were going to send some staff
to their LC course.
One last thing...Met Katherine Dettwyler(hi Katherine!), real neat lady!

                                Thanks Again,
                          Lisa Logan BSN,RNC,IBCLC
