<<I also have a mom whose nipples are wedged-shaped when the baby finishes
feeding. They are kind of flat and triangular-shaped across the tips. They
quickly revert back into their normal shape. She has been quite sore and
we've been working on good latch-on and they are better, but still totally
wedge-shaped when he lets go. His tongue is in the correct position while
feeding and his palate seems normal to me.>>
If there's nothing wrong with the child's mouth and tongue, and the mother's
breast is on average protractile, double-check positioning, I think that
the best US book (with all the text and pictures accurate on this) is
Bestfeeding by Renfrew Fisher and Arms (Celestial Arts). Go read it
carefully and study the pictures. Is the neck slightly flexed? most common
cause. If not that, you may have an in utero thumbsucker conditioned to
tongue-thrusting and will need to try and persuade him to get mouth open
and tongue down and forward and continue feed without puling the tongue
back and thrusting.
