A video made in Puerto Rico which used the expertise of Dr. Ana Parrilla and
other MD's and IBCLC's here, has a phrase I really enjoy using with my moms.
Nitza Diaz Blanco, an LLLL, MPH, IBCLC states: Babies have two stomachs, an
emotional one and a physical one. Sometimes babies nurse for one or the other
or both. As we don't know why they are wanting to nurse, isn't it great we can
fill both these stomachs with breastfeeding! This seems to be very helpful when
speaking to our moms who are very worried about "spoiling" their babies by
letting them suck their breasts "like a pacifier".
(Non-nutritive sucking).
This has been very helpful with our moms - and their in-laws, parents, friends,
etc who are usually hanging around to see what I will say...
