We examined breastfeeding duration in the US using the 1988
National Maternal and Infant Health Survey. This data is weighted
to be representative of the entire US population. We included sex
of the infant as a predictor and found that white women breastfed
their girl babies longer (a month on average) than their boy
babies. This was statistically significant even when other
variables (education, age, WIC participation, etc.) were controlled
for. This effect was not seen among black women. For what it's
