The only childhood disease I ever had was the old-fashioned two-week
(don't remember scientific name) measles. I was exposed to the others
countless times but never came down with them. I slept in the same bed
with my sister when she had chickenpox and I had _just_ had my tonsils
out and still never came down with them. I attributed, rightly or
wrongly, all the above to the fact I had been breastfed.
Our three children came down with chicken pox when I was 30 years old.
Our youngest was 5 months old and entirely breastfed. I wonder to this
day if that means that my immunity did not pass through my milk, or
what. (A laugh: I phoned the doctor's office and asked if the fact my
baby got chicken pox meant that my milk didn't have the immunities. The
receptionist phoned back later with the message "No, breastfeeding won't
protect _you_ from getting chicken pox." [Not my original question!:)])
To this day, I've never had chicken pox. Keep your fingers crossed!
