Nancy:
I understand your angst.... I applaud you for stopping and asking us all
to think before we open our mouths....
unfortunately, labeling is very prevalant... in birthing as well as many
other places, in and out of the hospital.
we are room numbers, bed numbers.....sections, vags....
I am not hospital based so do not know all the terminology that is used
to identify patients...names i am certian is not one of them.
I do not think that this is totally due to insensitivity... some is the
result of the number of patients seen in a given time period...
When I called the pediatrician's office to take my son in i was told
that the dr. was scheduled every 7 minutes! A friend in an ob office said
there is was every 5!
In private practice I spend 1 1/2 - 2 hours with each mother/baby pair
I see. I know that the hospital based lc's on line will tell you that they
are in and out of a room in 10 - 15 minutes....
There is a big difference....
Patricia
