<<Copy of a post to alt.support.breastfeeding>>

I've just purchased a copy of Bottlefeeding without Guilt: a reassuring guide for
loving parents, by Peggy Robin. She claims to have used a variety of
commercial online & internet resources for background research. I'd really
appreciate her email address if anyone has it. I'd just *love* to give her a little
feedback about this insipid little book.

In summary, she calls lactation consultants a cult (even listing nine elements of a
cult with examples from the lay breastfeeding literature), she provides page after
page of anecdotes of breastfeeding failures, she misquotes the pertinent medical
literature on breastfeeding and, in general, tries her best to bash breastfeeding
and it's associated support groups and professional organizations in an attempt to
assuage her yuppie guilt at having failed to successfully breastfeed her second
child.

She does provide a helpful listing of telephone contacts for formula manufacturers
for her breastfeeding-challenged readers, as well as a list of formula-feeding
mothers' support groups (all sponsered by formula companies - surprise!)

While I don't advocate routing any money into this dizzy chick's pocket by buying
the book, I think most LC's and breastfeeding mom's (and supportive dads!) should be
aware of it's existence.

Personally, I think she and her publisher should get a good, healthy dose of flame
mail over this little volume. Let's get her email address posted and start the
flood!

Incidentally, it's published by Prima Publishing, P.O. Box 1260, Rocklin, CA 95677,
telephone: (916) 632-4400.>

Give 'em a call to let them know what you think.
