Re: the long post on Ezzo families.
I've been concerned that we be accurate in our criticisms...while I
appreciated Lisa's clarifying the lack of endorsing spanking with spoons and
belts, I am concerned about a couple of other things. I do not find anything
in my copy of the curriculum about spanking a 4 month old--though I *have*
heard Ezzo parents discussing their practice of same. My copy suggests
spanking beginning at 14 months (which I also find offensive). Furthermore,
though I've heard repeated rumors about infant deaths, I have never been able
to document them, and not for lack of trying.
It's enough for me to read about the sadness of these kids. That goes
hand-in-hand with descriptions of older "Ezzo" kids being described as "the
angriest child I've seen". I find it outrageous--even without any
innaccuracies.
And I find it heartbreaking.
