I just received a phone call from Hong Kong from a client I saw a
few weeks ago. She was here visiting. She is American but will be in
Hong Kong for the next 5 years because of her husband's business. She
is very dedicated to BF, however she said in Hong Kong barely any of
the women BF. There is very little support for her there. Anyway, she
called and said her Doc there put her on Levonorgestrel 30mcg. for
birth control. It is an "mini-pill" and contains no estrogen. She
wants to know if this is safe to take while Bf and if this could
affect milk supply. She noticed 3 days after she started taking it
her baby (8wks old) began pulling off the breast after 5 minutes and
would refuse to take anymore. She would start on the oposite breast
on the next feeding and the same thing would occur. This has been
happening for the last 3 days. She said normally this is a baby who
can nurse and nurse. I spoke to her Sunday night which is Monday
morning morning in Hong Kong and she was going for a weigh check.
She will be calling me back Monday 2/26 so any information would be
greatly appreciated. TIA!
