I'm a practicing pediatrician (who breastfed all 4 of my kids--now teenagers)
in Altoona, PA. Unfortunately, we have a low rate of breastfeeding (I keep
trying to talk patients into nursing, but with little success). The rest of
the Peds in town seem to routinely pull babies off the breast when they
require phototherapy. They also readmit them to the hospital instead of
using home phototherapy. The QA committee of the hospital has assigned me to
pull together information on phototherapy in newborns. I have the stuff from
the AAP; I'd also like to acquire some good summary articles on breastfeeding
and jaundice. If anyone has seen any particularly good information, I'd love
to know about it. I'm also working on educating the postpartum and nursing
staff on lactation management. If anyone on LACTNET knows of particularly
good video tapes that I could obtain for use in nurse education, please send
me your recommendations. Thanks for your help. Linda Shaw
