The green discharge you describe could be due to an intraductal
papilloma or pre-existing fibrocystic breast disease and duct ectasia.
There is a description of these conditions in all surgical textbooks,
and a recent article in Modern Medicine August 1995 by Dr Paul Crea.
(Benign breast disease, a management guide for GPs).

This article states that 82% of discharges are benign.
Ruth Lawrence's book (mine is 1989 edition) also covers this in some
detail.
