Just for reference, our pharmacist passed on to me articles from the
November and December, 1995, issues of Pharmacy Times on over-the-counter
meds and breastfeeding. The drugs covered included cough and cold lozenges
and sprays,, cough, cold, and allergy preparations, anti-diarrheals, antacids
and digestive aids, nasal preparations, weight control preparations,
analgesics, hemorrhoidal preparations, laxatives and stool softeners, asthma
preparations, sleep meds, and nausea / vomiting / motion sickness
preparations. The title is "OTC Medications and Breastfeeding: An Update,"
by Frank J. Nice, R. Ph., D.P.A. Each med is coded as usually safe, usually
safe (note cautions), and avoid if at all possible while breastfeeding.
