Barbara,

My frustration with the insurance companies (both personal AND professional)
is legion! The next time someone denies payment of a pump for a preterm baby
or to salvage bf, ask the clerk at the insurance co. if they pay for the use
of electronic fetal monitors in the hospital. Of course they do. And they
pay for IVAC pumps too. And, at home, if the patient is on home care and
needs it. Then ask why? There's an alternative to using the IVAC -- it's
called "count the drops" (Those of us OLD nurses know how to do that).
Also, there's an alternative to EFM -- it's called "listening". Us OLD
nurses know how to do that too! Why they will pay astronomical prices for
"necessary equipment" in L&D, but won't pay for pumps is beyond my capability
of understanding. You won't get any satisfaction, but you will feel better.

I think.
