Sarah,
The classic reglan (metoclopramide) indication is for moms of preterm infants
who develop a waning milk supply while pumping. No pump is as effective as a
(properly) suckling infant, so some moms just need more stimulation. These
meds work by increasing prolactin levels. The dose is 5-10 mg three times a
day. Short term use is recommended (no more than three weeks, and usually
less), due to the risk of severe depression with longer use. I find that by
the time the mom finds a physician willing to prescribe metoclopramide (even
though it is a drug that they regularly prescribe for infants with gi
problems) her milk supply has dwindled so low that she gives up without even
taking the med.
