A mother called me today full of worry because a new family physician they
had seen for their daughter's six month check-up [they have just moved here]
saw fine light-colored hair in her six month old daughter's axillae & pubic
region. The dr. took a blood sample from the baby to check her estrogen
levels - said it could be due to high levels of estrogen in the mother's
breast milk but didn't check the mother's estrogen levels.
The mother is frantic with worry because by her own reading is concerned
that her daughter might have a tumor. The physician is out of town for a few
days.
The baby is exclusively breast-fed; the mother is still amenorrheic. Her
period returned at eleven months with her first child.
The baby's weight and development seem fine otherwise. Has anyone seen or
heard of these findings due to increased estrogen levels in breast milk?
Thanks
