Lactnetters,
A question has recently been posed to me regarding IV sedation and effect on
breastfeeding. The mother is expecting her 4th child via scheduled induction
in 6 weeks. The previous 3 were induced and she says she has "no
contractions without the IV" induction and she is given the sedative due to
the "tiring" process. She would like to know if there has been any recent
information on how much/when to receive the sedation to minimize the effect
on the baby. I have some "personal" feelings and ideas on this whole idea
(scheduled induction, etc) that I don't want to push on this woman and as
this question came via email, I can't get into a detailed discussion with
her. Does anyone has some info or research studies I can share with her?
Thanks, Kathy
