Yes, what a confusing mess! Even in the legal arena! However, I must say
that 'legally' I prefer breastfeeding over the alternatives...
Of course, you all will probably never have to do legal research on this.
But when I search the legal databases (I have Lexis), I have to do three
searches:
(Breastfe! or (breast fed! or breast feed!)) (the exclamation point
picks up any or no letters after the word)
If I try (breastfe! or breast fe!) I pick up every "breast feel" that is in
the criminal statutes ... you'd be surprised how much law there is on that!!!
If I try lactat! I pull up lactating ringer (or something like that...).
One time I got alot of lactating farm animals.
And you can imagine the number of cases I get with nurs! ... gak!
As a last note, our legislators prefer to separate the word. It seems that
every statute is different (just seems that way, after all there is an
infinite number of combinations...). It seems most prefer "breast-feeding"!
I vote for breastfeeding...
