Ruth,
If all physical explanations have been explored, all physical solutions
tried, you might consider gently probing this mother's history. Does she have
abortion, miscarriage or other loss in her background? Molestation? Sexual
abuse? Sometimes it is the pain of a past trauma that is the source of
psychological inhibition of MER, and until it is brought out into the open,
the problem may persist. I have seen two instances when, as the topic was
brought out into the open and discussed with compassion, the mother later on
began to let down normally.
