CMCDERMOTT, I tried to e-mail you privately and it just didn't work. Sorry
you got a ticket. Really! What a pain in the... umm breast? or something.
That COP probably really would rather you make it to work or home a little
late, than to make the run on the accident you are more likely to be involved
in due to speeding. A lot of officers feel very strongly about enforcing the
law on speeding among other things. It really is their job just to enforce
the law. It's up to a judge to determine if any of our reasons for doing what
were are is a "good one" or not. Of course from my perspective as an LC,
yours was a really good reason! We really don't want the officers making the
judgments, just enforcing the rules. What happens if you get an officer who
just doesn't like the way you look and he gets to choose who gets the rules
enforce? Why the message? I'm really not trying to be mean. I'm just married
to one of those wonderful guys who lays his life on the "thin blue line"
every day so the rest of us can stay safe. And I hate it when people refer to
them as "COPS" like it was a bad thing. Just last week, a suicidal man tried
to take my husband's life, along with a few other dedicated officers who
responded to the call. Guess that "little incident" just sharpened my
appreciation a little more for what they do every day.
