Here is another danger of formula...one of my patients weaned early, at 2
months, and started whateveryouwannacallit...one day she drank some water
out of the tap and found it to be extremely salty...something went wrong
with the water softner and they got a bunch of salt in their water. (I know
nothing about water softners). The baby was noted to have dry diapers over
nite and the baby sitter called mom saying that the first wet diaper of the
day had `blood' in the pee. The mom is an RN and realized the dry diapers
were from the salty water, especially a problem because the child was just
getting over a bout of diarrhea. She had the babysitter pound down fluids,
esp water before I saw the child. The `blood' in the diaper was uric acid
crystals from having such concentrated urine.
All this pathology just because she decided to wean.-Anne Eglash MD
