Barbara: The TSH is thyroxine stimulating hormone, produced by the
pituitary in response to a low thyroid hormone level in the bloodstream,
a situation that commonly appears when the thyroid gland is not producing
enough (the usual situation in hypothyroidism postpartum which
contributes to low milk supply). But in these cases the TSH would
actually be high, not on the low side of normal. This woman's TSH level
is normal and not at all suggestive of hypothyroidism. I would look for
some other reason for her low milk supply. Alicia. [log in to unmask]
