I believe that education about breastfeeding has to begin long before the
pregnant teen stage.  It should be directed at both sexes, so that boys
learn about this crucial function of women's breasts.  At early ages, it
probably doesn't need to be very clinical or detailed.  Perhaps in early
years (K-4), including pictures of moms nursing in every-day settings,
treating it as natural and normal, is one approach.  At this stage, also,
use of "teachable moments", such as when a child brings in a doll with a
bottle, to point out that this is not necessarily the normal way to feed
a baby, but that occasionally it is needed for feeding mother's milk to a
baby when mother has to be away, e.g. at work.  In middle school,
inclusion of more details about lactation in the health curriculum, and
in later grades it can be included in the sexuality classes. This is of
great interest to me, as I'm planning to approach the public schools
