In reply to Shirley Gross,
I haven't come across the itching you mention, but you refer to flushing and
sweating. Recently we have had about four queries at the Lactation Resource
Centre about hot flushes and night sweats during lactation. The symptoms
were described as being menopausal. One woman was being put on to oestrogen
patches by her doctor. We were asked how this would affect lactation.
Unfortunately, we could find nothing in the literature or in our case
histories on this situation, other than a brief reference saying that
sometimes lactating women experienced hormonal problems similar to
menopausal symptoms. I would like to hear from other Lactnetters if they
have come across this before and if they found any answers other than 'put
up with it, it will pass'. One woman was experiencing this for the third
time - it happened with each baby.

Philippa Thomson,
Melbourne, Australia, where summer is still deciding whether it will come
this year or not! (December 1 is officially the first day of summer)
