Re : Macrobid (nitrofurantoin)
Macrobid is simply a different tradename for nitrofurantoin. As
there are about 12,000 different tradenames, for space reasons, I only
use a few in my book.
FURADANTIN,Macrobid
Generic = NITROFURANTOIN
Category = Urinary antibiotic
Secreted in breastmilk in small amounts. Undetectable in breastmilk from
mothers given 100 mg four times daily. In another study, milk levels of
0.3 to 0.5 mg/L were reported in two women who received 100 mg every 6 hrs,
followed by 200 mg the next morning. Probably compatible in moderate
doses in older infants. Do not use in infants with G6PD, or in infants
less than 1 month of age. AAP Compatible with breastfeeding.
