My clinical nurse manager shared some news with me this afternoon. She was
told the company which has been supplying those free vanilla-scented
pacifiers to our unit is taking them off the market. (Her understanding was
that long-term use sometimes resulted in deterioration of the rubber--I think
the concern here was aspiration-- and possibly some bacterial growth.) I
suppose the company probably plans to replace them with another type, but--my
own personal good news--my boss told them she didn't want any pacifiers at
all. Parents will have to provide their own from now on. Score one for a
baby-friendly environment!
