Hello 'netters,
I have a baby in the special care nursery who has Pierre Robin syndrome. For
those who are not familar with this syndrome it is a condition in which there is
" under development of the mandibular area before 9 weeks gestation (receeding
chin) with secondary cleft palate, glossoptosis, and low set ears". The
neonatologist told me today that we could try breast feeding today or tomorrow.
We are now feeding the baby with a Haberman Feeder. The Haberman is similar to a
squeeze bottle with a nipple. The dad wanted to use the feeder and feed today so
tomorrow we will put the baby to breast. Well, my esteemed colleagues, who has
had experience with these infants? I have only seem one other infant with this
condition and it was not breastfed.
