Jeanine and all--
You are correct that Reglan (metoclopramide) has been associated with
depression. I spoke to Dr. Randall Craig (infertility specialist in Arizona),
who will be publishing on induced lactation soon; he works with Reglan as
well as some hormones, and I asked him about the depression. His comment was
that 2 of 3 women will experience some depression after 3 mos on the drug,
but most will remain on it and "need" it for successful, long-term lactation.
We also discussed motilium, which is currently being reviewed by the FDA and
should hopefully be approved in the near future for the U.S. Motilium is
already in use in Canada and Europe, has the same galactogogual effects as
Reglan but apparently NONE of the adverse side-effects. In those countries,
Reglan has been abandoned completely for Motilium, and I am looking forward
to its speedy introduction here. According to Randall and other sources,
motilium not only has none of the negative side effects, but it also works
even better than Reglan!
