I need some help from some of the MD's on line. I have a 2 day
postpartum mom with a breast lump that was found during the last
month of pregnancy. Ultrasound shows a solid mass and biopsy is
scheduled in 2 weeks. Surgeon has told her she will not be able to BF
for 2-3 days afterwards. My thought is it would be better to keep the
breast empty to avoid engorgement and pressure on site and possible
mastitis. I need some sources to present to the surgeon as an
advocate of this mom. The maternity staff thought she shouldn't even
start nursing and gave bottles. I got her started today with offering
the breast, pumping to stimulate supply and cup feeding the baby. She
and I decided it would be better to start now and stop later if
needed (? chemo, etc) than to attempt to start up later. Help!!
