Jon: That's a tragic story about the 36-year-old woman who died of a
heart attack. Still, unless I have my stats wrong this must be extremely
rare. I'm not arguing against testing for cholesterol in women of
childbearing age. However, I would caution interpreting high levels
during pregnancy and lactation as a cause for alarm, especially if the
HDL levels are high and there are no other risk factors. No one,
including a breastfeeding mother, would suffer from a low fat, high fiber
diet and a sensible exercise plan. I'm just concerned about women being
placed on cholesterol-lowering agents or told to wean based on high
cholesterol levels, when we're dealing with a population at such a low
risk of heart attacks. Alicia. [log in to unmask]
