Hang in there Marie! We've all "been there" or will "be there" some day. I
suspect you were ambushed by something bigger going on.
Philosophizing for a moment - this incident underlines why thorough
documentation of each and every patient/client/mother contact is so important
and required by virtually all regulatory bodies, including LLL Leader
Guidelines, ILCA's Standards of Practice, nursing scope of practice
documents, most hospital policies, most maternity unit policies, etc. etc.
Write it down, always. Not only is it good practice - it protects the
mother, our colleagues, and our legal behinds.
We'll continue to have the one student we can't reach (I like Nancy Williams'
term "wounded student") or the one mom who misinterprets everything or the
one colleague who simply doesn't get it. Develop and follow excellent
professional habits. I love LactNet - this is our peer support group for when
WE need support from dealing with too many wounded clients, or those with
"agendas" different from ours.
Linda Smith, been there too.
