Someone asked about green BMs a day or two ago and I haven't seen a reply,
so here goes:
When a mother describes green BMs I ask about her nursing technique.Very
often she is taking the baby off the first breast after a certain time
instead of letting baby finish. This can cause green stools. Michael
Woolridge has done some research on this topic. I seem to get a lot of calls
from mothers of fussy, unhappy babies who also have explosive, sometimes
green BMs. This simple technique (finishing one side before offering the
other) makes a big difference in most of them. One mother described it as
"like having a new baby." I'd certainly look at this first before getting
worried about other causes.
