Hello !
I guess after a week I am ready to introduce myself. I live in
Sublimity, Oregon with my husband and children. We have six children who
range in age from 6 to 22 years of age. The last four were breast feed past
their first birthday with an average age of weaning at 20 months. When the
first two were born I honestly did not know that babies could be breastfeed
but please remeber that it was in the early 70s and I was all of 18 when my
first baby wasborn. When my 3rd was born my husband got a great idea , I
should breastfeed. It did not take long to make me a believer. After being
involved in LLL for years I became interested in promoting breastfeeding.
I am currently employed at a WIC clinic in Salem, Oregon as the
Breastfeeding Educator . I am responsible for development and teaching of
classes, leading the support group, counseling clients and community
outreach. In my spare time I certify the clients and run an outclinic. My
current claim to fame was a TV interview on a Portland station, they were
interested in my BF and returning to work class.
My background is a BS in American History , I specialized in women's
history. After completing a BF specialist course at Evergreen Medical Center
I earned my C LE.(certified lactation educator). Presently I am in the
teacher certification program with ICEA and I hope to take my exam in the
fall. I round this all out by being a trained birth doula , the last birth
I attended was Saturday morning. One of these days I will be a CD {certified
doula} with DONA.{Doulas of North America}.
It is incredible to have a daily contact with other people who support
and promote breastfeeding. I am interested in more information about the
Crying and Colic Group that Margery Wilson mentioned. I am currently, for
the last three weeks, working with a mom who is at the end of her rope.
None of the tried and true methods are helping her cope. I have removed
dairy from her diet, cut back on her Vitamin C intake and stopped any
supplements of the food meant for baby soy beans. The baby is 6 weeks old ,
born term by emergency C-section and declared healthy by his doctor. Any ideas?
