There is a specialty society of physician that specialize in the treatment of
overweight people, it is the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.
I am not a member but as I understand it these DRs. affer comprehensive
treatment programs that involve diet, exercise, food supplements, and
medications. These newer agents don not appear to have the potential for
abuse that the ones used in the 60's do. They seem to have less side effects
and to be better tolerated.
However, I don't think that they have any place to be used in a BFing mother.
We are talking about elective treatment here and the small wait(weight? just
a little pun) till the child is weaned seems to be better than the exsposure
to the infant of a potentially appetitie modifying drug.
