While I have no studies on this, I breastfed through three of my four
pregnancies (all but the first!) and produced babies that were 8 pounds, 8
pounds 8 ounces, and 8 pounds 3 ounces. (I'm only 5'2" so these were
good-sized babies for me.) I went past term with two of them, and was a week
early with one. I can't see any possible harmful effects of nursing on these
children (who are now 17, 14 and 11). My best friend Lenore has also
breastfed through four of her five pregnancies, and her babies have all been
nine and ten pounders.
