Barbara,
I agree that some babies get hooked on fingerfeeding.  My trick to reduce the
chance of this happening is to show the parents how to stimulate the baby to
open the mouth and pull the finger in (by tickling the lower lip and then the
tongue tip GENTLY).  This is not a panacea, but it does help.
