Ellen,

In response to your post regarding the spelling of the word
breastfeeding, I have these thoughts.  By splitting the word in two,
either by hyphen or separate words, one gets the sense of the breast
being somewhat separated from the act.  A sense that the breast simply
performs the act.  I feel, as I would guess most of you LACTNETters do,
that breastfeeding is more than an act and much more than a feeding
method.  It describes a special bond between the mother (breast) and the
child (who is being fed).  I may be way out on a limb here, but that is
my impression of this issue.  Three cheers for BREASTFEEDING!!!
