Hello Lactnet friends. I am sending this request for information on behalf
of DeDe Dennig, IBCLC, a LC colleague here in Cincinnati. DeDe is on the
Lactnet, but has not figured out yet how to send messages. She's also at work
right now, so my sending this for her was the easiest thing to do.
DeDe's client is exclusively breastfeeding an 8 week old. Upon her return to
work in a week or so this mom will be exposed to furfural (furaldehyde) in
the factory where she works. Apparently this chemical is used as some type
of bonding agent and can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled. The mom is
especially concerned because in one instance she works in a more confined
space with this chemical present in its dried/resin form.
This mom has had this exposure during both of her pregnancies and during her
last breastfeeding experience (nursed first baby for 10 months).
Would anyone have any specific information about exposure to this chemical
and its presence in breastmilk?
Please reply directly to DeDe at her e-mail address:
