Hi all my fellow lactnetters! Since I just joined lactnet last week, and
this is my first posting, I will tell you a little about myself. I am an RN
certified in neonatal nursing. I assist and support all our breastfeeding
Moms at the hospital, and I also breast fed my four children. There are some
questions that have come up at work, that our lactation consultant, or anyone
else, can find answers to. Hopefully by presenting them to all of you, maybe
we can get them answered. Thanks in advance for any info!
1. Has anyone experience any problems associated with pierced nipples and
breastfeeding? We had an expectant Mom ask about it the other day.
2. According to Dr. Ruth Lawrence in LaLeche Leagues Breastfeeding Answer
Book, a woman may take one tablespoon of lecithin per day for recurring
plugged ducts. Does anyone know how many milligrams this amounts to and/or
what is the exact dose?
3. We recently had a mother that was prescribed Prozac for 7-10 days for
post partum depression. According to our resources, it was safe for her to
breastfeed, but her pediatrician would not approve it. This upset the mother
terribly that she was to take the baby off the breast. Therefore, she
delayed starting the med and also stopped taking it prematurely so she could
resume breastfeeding. Does anyone have any experience with Prozac and
breastfeeding? Is is safe for short term use?..what about long term? We did
hear from a pediatric nurse practitioner about a baby who experienced
withdrawal symptoms after a mother's long term use. Thanks. Carolyn Blevins
