The M-a breast pump instruction book says moms should boil the whole kit -
including tubing - before first use. Yet the new L-a "ready-to-go" kit comes
"partially assembled for easier use," even in the non-sterile kits.
Mixed message! I've started buying the sterile version so that it is
truly "ready to go", but what do others do? Do you tell mothers to boil
the whole kit first? Do you tell them the kit is clean but not sterile
and that they should use their judgment? Has anyone seen a problem with
the mother of a healthy term baby using a kit straight from the package
without boiling before first use?
Boiled tubing looks dreadful, and until recently I had always told mothers
not to boil it (unless they got milk in it). Then I called the company,
and was told "all parts" includes tubing. Yuck!
Your thoughts?
