It seems that our own wonderful Dr. Dettwyler has become enamored with
aquatic organs. I certainly hope that she does not begin a discourse on
cephalosporin antibiotics... as they were originally discovered by a
professor in a canoe, floating in a Vienna sewage.
Would she recommend... " Take a cephalsporin, made from sewage !"
Something similar to this actually happened to me, I had a resident doing a
project last year studying whether interferon(made from genetically altered
E.Coli) would help in pediatric RSV(respiratory synctial virus syndrome).
He was trying to get the mom to sign a Consent Form and described that
interferon came from FECAL Bacteria. Well we didn't get that patient. I
had to re-instruct him on interviewing patients!!!
twh(I'm actually rather fond of dettwyler)
