all this discussion of chicken pox reminds me that there's a new vaccine
available. My daughter is 15 months old, still bf thank you after a rocky
start with six weeks of SNS/pumping etc (long story). We've decided not to
give her the chicken pox vaccine yet - it's just out, and maybe she'll get
a mild case while still nursing.  I think that I'll get it for her when
she's 3 if she hasn't had the infection by then. (Both my husband and I had
chicken pox as kids - she's our only child so far.)
But - since several lactnetters mentioned adults and teens with bad cases
of chicken pox, we should think about recommending the vaccine at
preconception visits for women who haven't had the infection.  In fact, I
think the vaccine is a good idea for any adult and teen who hasn't had a
case.  Now the questions - are most one year olds getting the varicella
vaccine now?  And can the vaccine be given to a nursing mom?
