I agree with Tom Hale. The study mentioned earlier is seriously
flawed.At least one individual has suggested to me that the authors also
had a particular "agenda" which influenced the cases used. Setting that
aside for the moment, I have done a reasonably decent review of the
literature and the artilce in JAMA is the ONLY one I have found that
actually attempts to link silicone breast implants (leaking or otherwise)
to later health problems. None of the other articles that have looked into
acute or chronic illness following their implantation has found any such
relationship.
I think we need to set aside this fear and get on with helping mothers to
breastfeed without this additional concern.
