Leslie Ayre-Jaschke, we must all commend you for your work as both LLL
leader and LC in Peace River, Alberta.  I am glad the mothers of your area
have your wonderful wisdom available to them.  And we, all around the world
on Lactnet, learn from you, too!  I hope we, in turn, help you feel
connected to a larger community of people who feel as you do about the
importance of breastfeeding and the work you are doing.  With Lactnet here,
you are not a "lone leader" as much as before it existed.  We are all
rooting for you.

You mentioned a "Leaven" article about being a LLL and an LC at the same
time.  It is "Guidelines for Active Leaders Who Also Work As Paid Lactation
Consultants," Vol. 26, no. 3:39-41, May-June 1990.

(I am very interested in this discussion.  It affects many of us on
Lactnet.  I am not using my LC credentials to work for pay at the moment,
but probably will at some point.  Each of us is different in our education,
background, experience and level of knowledge.  We cannot assume that
someone who is "just" a LLL Leader and not an LC has a lesser knowledge
base.  Let's work together to support each others' learning and growth
where our skill levels differ.  Our major goal is to support, protect and
promote breastfeeding in our communities, and I hate to see us lose sight
of this by viewing others in this field with suspicion if they come from a
different background, like LC vs LLL leader; nurse vs nutritionist; one
lactation preparation course vs another; holistic health care approach vs
traditional medicine, etc. I think local breastfeeding coalitions and
Lactnet itself are wonderful in helping us to break down such barriers and
to value what each of us has to contribute).
