Hi All,
Just wanted to say that I agree with Ros about taking care of depressed moms.
After the birth of my first son, I experienced first PPD, which quiclky
escalated into PPPsychosis. I was so afraid that someone would take my baby
from me if I told them of the bizzarre things I was feeling that I never got
help. Don't ask how I made it thru all that without hurting my son, but I
did. I almost tried suicide a number of times but seeing my baby gave me
ONE thing to live for. I believe that moms who are lucky enough to get help
when dealing with severe PPD need to stay on their meds, and that hopefully
what they are taking is BF compatible. If it's not however, then the baby
must be fed. Period. BF a baby when you think he's the devil is a
horrifying experience. I know firsthand. Relactation is not the priority in
cases such as this, IMHO.
BF is very important, but so, obviously, is the moms mental health. A mother
can't be an effective mom if she can't cope with life. I know that
firsthand, too.
Jay
