From Denise Ferrell,
Just a note of caution which I we all use appropriately:
I know of a woman who died from eating a meal prepared from a pan which had
been used to cook the previous dish and sesame oil.The woman had SPECIFICALLY
told the waiter she was allergic to sesame oil. This tragedy occurred several
years ago in Israel and it was a friend of an LC in Kentucky-not sure if the
LC is on the Lactnet or not.

From what I've heard about goldenseal-it seems that if moms use this to fight
off infections while they're nursing, the babies refuse to nurse or go on
strikes. That's anecdotal in 2 cases and like the use of FDA approved
Depro-Vera,could have various individual responses, positive or negative.

Taking a look at today's Consumer Reports mag, there is a lot of discussion of
herbs in capsule forms and the discrepancies found in different brands and
the quote from Jame Duke,USDA botanist:"two plants of the same species can be
as different as two people on a street".

I have used caution when recommending fenugreek for a temporary 1-3 day
method to augment measures to increase milk supply because sometimes
referreing moms to the"nutrition store" as I refer to it, I sense a loss of
credibility on their part,as if herbs weren't the original sources from many
FDA approved drugs! BUT,after this article,I have to admit that I am leary of
recommending herbs due to the fact that there are no controls in the
manufacturing process or so the article explains.
