A recent issue of HIPPOCRATES that tells about families of women that thought
implants were great and then decided to have them removed.
The article is titled "The Price of Perfect Breasts" it is the Sept issue.
it barely mentions BF.
One of the formula flyers I picked up at the AAFP convention from Mead
Johnson really has some memorable quotes that they say about their product
but sound like they should be about BM.
Here are some quotes:
"Now that we've got Jenny on the right formula, we're all sleeping through."
"I've got a million concerns. Julie's formula isn't one of them."
"Feeding tme is no longer fussy time for Ethan."
"With our family history of allergies, AMy's doctor said to start her on a
soy formula."
"In two days, Sara's colic(due to milk protein allergy) went away. And so
did my worries."
"Now I know Jamie is getting the iron she needs."
"Joy's ready to switch from infant formula. Where do we go from here?"
"I'm so grateful there's a company that would make a formula just for Emma."
(This the specialty formulas for PKU, MSUD, etc)
"Now when Joey gets diarrhea, I don't worry that he'll get dehydrated."
The title of this sales brochure is "Your resource for mother satisfaction."
There are only token, small print references to breastfeeding and they don't
even pay lip service to BF superiority. "If breastfeeding is not chosen or a
supplement is needed."
is all that is listed as a footnote.
Another pamplet has the following paragraph:
Breastfeeding is a highly personal decision, based on a mother's judgment and
personal
feedings. If you're uncertain about nursing, discuss it with your doctor.
You'll find that nursing has benefits for both you and your baby. However
if you choose not to breastfeed(or are unable to for some reason), you have a
right to expect other people to respect your decision. (Does respect mean
that we don't say anything that might make them guilty?)
Lastly there is a NEW journal called "The Breast Journal" edited by Shahla
Masood, MD. The editoral intro by the editor says:
THe Breast journal is structured to address controversial issues in all area
of breast disease and provide guideline for the legal, governmental, ethical,
and psychosocial issues concerning treatment of breast disease. .........We
at the Breast Journal invite your participation, and encourage your
submission of scientific manuscripts, editorial opinions, and letters. We
envision this endeavor to be a collective effort striving to elucidate all
aspects of breast disease, so as to improve diagnosis and treatment, and

I hope you find these items of interest.
