MSUD is maple syrup urine disease. If is an inborn error of metabolism witha
deficiency of an enzyme the decarboxylates leucin, isoleucine and valine.
Symptoms are poor feedin, vomiting and urine that smells like maple syrup,
hence the name. THe management is a formula deficient in leucine, isoleucin
and valine. If someone out there knows more about the amino acid composition
of breastmilk then we could figure out if breastfeeding is a problem. My
guess is that it is but I have't had the time to look it up carefully.
