Hi! While using the medela baby scale and doing "increment weights", much
prefer term over "test weights" when talking with moms, I have noticed
sometimes a negative intake. I have seen this a few times in the first few
days, when the milk isn't in yet. Clinically, swallows are audible, good jaw
motion, etc, and the transfer is -1 or -2 compared to the pre-feed wt.
The babies I have noticed this with have been term babies, within the
first 72 hours. In the cases I've seen the babies went on to do well, but
it's puzzling. Have any of you seen this occurance?? Could these babies be
losing weight so rapidly that what the gain was isn't registered??
